The city is rich of artistic and architectural reminders easy to see along the narrow streets of the old town. The castle built between 1530 and 1540, was erected in order to defend the family Castriota-Scanderbeg for the attack of Turkish people who tried to occupy the region.

Galatina is the third largest town in the province of Lecce. The real origin of the city goes back to the second Byzantine colonization, that took place between the ninth and tenth centuries.
The most important thing to see is the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria (XIV century) and the Mother Church of Saints Peter and Paul, built in the XVII century. Galatina is most know such as the city of “taranta” phenomenon, a typical dance of Salento.

Gallipoli. Its name comes from two Greek word “Kale” and “Polis”, that means “beautiful city”. This city is divided in the new town and old town; the historical center was built by the Greek people as a labyrinth, now the streets of the ancient town is full of palaces with houses with blue and Baroque churches cornices. The old town is connected to the new town by a stone bridge.
Gallipoli is know expecially for the coast and his sandy beaches.

The Marine Protected of Porto CEsareo was established in 1997, is placed in the esternal part of the Taranto’s Gulf and is full of rocky inlets and sandy coves.
